MEET JAMES
Hello everyone! From a very young age, I knew that I had both a passion and skill for working with people. As a result, I decided to go to school (University of Virginia) to obtain my BA in Psychology. Immediately following school, I immersed myself within the adult population of intellectual and development disabilities. I truly loved this work and the individuals I was supporting. Wanting to further my clinical skills, I decided to obtain my MA in Clinical Social Work (George Mason University). Following graduation, I worked as an Adult Case Manager for individuals with brain injuries for a local non-profit as well as a clinical therapist within Palliative Care Medicine.
In addition to working as a the sole provider for JP Professional Counseling Services, LLC, I currently serve as the Director of Psychological Health for the Virginia Army National Guard, as well as a Behavioral Health Officer for the Guard. Supporting our service members is very important to me.
As humans, we are susceptible to the many challenges that life brings us. We are not immune to how these instances may impact us emotionally. My goal as a therapist is to help you discover yourself more and provide you with the tools to be successful. I use a variety of evidenced-based interventions, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing to support adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and bereavement, brain injury and military related stressors.
